Farmer’s Market Small Business Development
This dynamic, hands-on course combines math, science, and communication skills through the real-world experience of planning and running a student-led farmer’s market. Students will tackle financial planning, record-keeping, and profit analysis while exploring value-added products to maximize their market success.
Beyond the numbers, learners will communicate professionally, reach out to vendors, create a marketing plan, and promote the market to the community. The science component will focus on effective growing techniques, utilizing the school’s greenhouse and outdoor garden spaces to cultivate plants for sale.
As a final project, students will develop a community presentation on the benefits of healthy, locally sourced food, sharing their knowledge and experience during the Farmer’s Market. This course offers a unique blend of academic learning and real-world application, empowering students to develop critical skills in entrepreneurship, agriculture, and public engagement.
