The beautiful Morenci Middle School was constructed in 2004 and features two science labs, a 50+ seat computer lab, a full-court gymnasium and 20 comfortable classrooms. With funding from a community-supported technology bond, all MMS students (grades 6-8) are provided with a Google Chromebook for use in and outside of the classroom.
Morenci students appreciate the clean, orderly atmosphere of the building and the fun, friendly attitude of the teachers and staff. To many, the tight-knit community of the school feels like a family where “everyone looks out for each other.”
A unique feature of Morenci’s middle school system is the hybrid 5th grade. Fifth grade classrooms are located in the middle school, but they function largely as self-contained elementary classrooms. Students use lockers and move between a few classrooms, but mostly they enjoy the comfort and security of self-containment. With this model, the transition between elementary school and middle school is more seamless and less stressful for young students.
In addition to a full schedule of core classes, Morenci Middle School offers electives in art, band, physical education, and project-based learning. Project Lead the Way (pre-engineering) classes are offered to students beginning in 5th grade. This project-based program utilizes principles of math, science, art, communication, and teamwork, giving students a feel for real-life problem solving and project completion. The PLTW classroom also features a 3-D printer.
For those looking for extra-curricular involvement, three seasons of middle school sports competition are available for boys and girls, including cross country, football, volleyball, competitive cheer, basketball, and track. Students may also join organizations such as Student Council, Engineering Club and Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
Morenci Middle School provides a safe, nurturing environment for students to grow and develop into young adults with a sense of Bulldog Pride.
