Welcome to Morenci Middle School!

Please complete “Parent Survey.”  Thanks for your input.

The beautiful Morenci Middle School was constructed in 2004 and features two science labs, a 50+ seat computer lab, a full-court gymnasium and 20 comfortable classrooms. With funding from a community-supported technology bond, all MMS students (grades 6-8) are provided with a Google Chromebook for use in and outside of the classroom.

Morenci students appreciate the clean, orderly atmosphere of the building and the fun, friendly attitude of the teachers and staff. To many, the tight-knit community of the school feels like a family where “everyone looks out for each other.”

A unique feature of Morenci’s middle school system is the hybrid 5th grade. Fifth grade classrooms are located in the middle school, but they function largely as self-contained elementary classrooms. Students use lockers and move between a few classrooms, but mostly they enjoy the comfort and security of self-containment. With this model, the transition between elementary school and middle school is more seamless and less stressful for young students.

In addition to a full schedule of core classes, Morenci Middle School offers electives in art, band, physical education, and project-based learning. Project Lead the Way (pre-engineering) classes are offered to students beginning in 5th grade. This project-based program utilizes principles of math, science, art, communication, and teamwork, giving students a feel for real-life problem solving and project completion. The PLTW classroom also features a 3-D printer.

For those looking for extra-curricular involvement, three seasons of middle school sports competition are available for boys and girls, including cross country, football, volleyball, competitive cheer, basketball, and track. Students may also join organizations such as Student Council, Engineering Club and Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

Morenci Middle School provides a safe, nurturing environment for students to grow and develop into young adults with a sense of Bulldog Pride.

Middle School Principal

Kim Irish

I am Kim Irish, your Principal at Morenci Middle School. I have worked here as a teacher for the past 16 years as a teacher, advisor, and coach. I taught 4 years previous to that at other schools. I am excited to begin the new school year and looking forward to serving this community and will work hard to make this school and our students successful. I will be working alongside a dedicated staff to provide the best possible educational program for our students.

In the middle and high school we provide a well rounded education for our students. Our curriculum is aligned to state standards and we are using research based materials to provide our instruction and will be striving to improve standardized test scores. In addition, we have fine arts classes, online courses, and various other electives. We offer a variety of athletics, clubs, and extracurricular activities. Academic assistance is offered at lunch and after school every day, and many of our core classes have co-teachers working in them.

I welcome your input, ideas and suggestions on how we can improve. Input from students, parents and the community regarding curriculum, art and music education, and athletics is essential to ensure that we are providing students with the best educational experience possible. Feel free to call or e-mail, to set up an appointment, if you have any ideas or suggestions for continuing to make Morenci Middle/High School a great place to learn.
