Welcome From Morenci Area Schools Superintendent Mr. Mike McAran.
From 1966 through 1975 I taught English and Social Studies, 7th and 8th Grade, at Fraser Public Schools. Was English Department Chair for the Middle School. At the high school level I was Varsity Wrestling and Junior Varsity Football. I also got to work with a interesting group of students called “Special Materials”.
In 1976 I did an administrative internship at Utica Ford and received my Specialist Degree, 32 hour beyond a Masters.
In the fall of 1976 I came to Tecumseh to be an assistant principal. In 1981 I took on the duties of Night School Director and Athletic Director.
In 1983 I came to Sand Creek Community School’s as Middle School/High School Principal. Also oversaw State and Federal Programs, Gifted and Talented Programs, Perkins Grants (Vocational Education), and School Improvement. Also started a SADD Chapter and worked with my wife as National Honor Society Advisor and Class Advisor.
In the fall of 1998 I came back to Tecumseh Public Schools as Middle School Principal until 2004 when I became Superintendent. As Superintendent I oversaw Tecumseh Options, an alternative school; The Americans With Disabilities Act (#504s);and Special Education.
I am married to Judy Raines McAran for 50 Years. Judy is a retired English and Latin Teacher after 31 years of service. Our son, Michael, is 43 years old and has two sons; Patrick who graduated from Michigan State and is a 1st Lieutenant with 10th Division at Fort Drum and William, who is in the 11th Grade at Tecumseh High School. Our Daughter Catherine is 35 and lives in Brooklyn N.Y. and works as a Software Developer.
I am Past President of Tecumseh Rotary and Past President Elect of Tecumseh Kiwanis. I also served on the Herrick Hospital Board, the LHA Board, and the Promedica Board. Also served on the Raisin Township Planning Commission.
As Morenci Area School’s Superintendent, I find this to be the most enjoyable position I have ever had!
